Lonely New Year's Eve

A tall dark haired man stands outside the door to his home
And as she opens the door a large smile runs across her face because he's finally home
Across the street live the campbell's and they're just happy to have a home
Because last week they had a small house fire and almost lost their home to the blaze

These are just a few of the things you notice
On a lonely new year's eve
With no one to kiss or to talk to
You tend to notice other people

The other day mrs. warner came up and asked how the campbell's were doing
I told her they were doing fine and that she could come in and visit if she wanted to
And then she said to me son you shouldn't shut yourself in and live your life through other people
You should get out and make your own friends I'm speaking from my own personal experience

Then when I asked her how she knew
She told me she had been watching
She said she had nothing better to do
Cause she had a lonely new year's eve
